Center for Advocacy & Dispute Resolution

Our award winning Moot Court, Mock Trial, Negotiations and Client Interviewing & Counseling teams are part of the opportunities available through our Center for Advocacy & Dispute Resolution.

I'm Ed Telfeyan, professor of Lawyering Skills, director of the Moot Court program and co director of the Advocacy Center here at McGeorge. I think of three areas of life at McGeorge, and what we do here as being very special, and are the main causes for my 20 years now, as a full time member of this faculty. First of all, I would talk about the culture that exists at the law school. And that culture is one that is emphasized by the collegiality that exists amongst our faculty, all of us care for each other and support each other in the various areas of work that we do. And I think that then extends down to the student body, where there is a surprisingly limited amount of outright competition between students and much more of the kind of supportive atmosphere where I think true learning can be most highly fostered. So I just love that about the school. Secondly, I think there is this work ethic that our curriculum emphasizes. And the product of that is shown in the practice-ready attorneys that we graduate. I'm very proud of the product that we create here at McGeorge and part of it is certainly due to the outstanding Legal Writing program we have of which I am certainly a big part, as well as the competition teams and the Advocacy Center that we run. Most importantly for me, of course, is the Moot Court program which is Now nationally ranked and has been for over 10 years. But in the Legal Writing area, we have really a breakthrough program that that features two years of academic study and skills training and ends with our final four, which is the signature event at McGeorge every year held in April, where our top oral advocates compete against each other on a problem that the entire second year class has been working on for the full academic year. And then thirdly, I just love our campus. We have what is the closest thing I've ever seen in a law school setting to a true liberal arts feel to our campus. It's a beautiful open 11 acre area of land in Sacramento that is really segregated in a sense of being removed from the rest of the hustle and bustle of the city around it. And it's just beautiful. year round, but especially in the spring and fall, where everything is green and and you see students playing on the quad or studying in the chairs outdoors. It's just a beautiful place. I love majority and I'm proud to be part of our program. Thank you
